Why Specialty Haircuts Aren’t Included in Our Kid’s Cut Service
At Clyde’s Tattoo & Barber, we love cutting kids’ hair. Whether it’s a first haircut, a back-to-school cleanup, or a fresh summer cut, we want every child to leave looking sharp and feeling confident.
One question we get from time to time is why certain styles—like burst fades, mohawks, blowout tapers, skin fades, hard parts, and detailed designs—aren’t included in our standard Kid’s Cut (12 & Under) service.
The short answer? Not all haircuts are created equal.
Our Kid’s Cut service is built around traditional children’s haircuts. These are the everyday styles that can be done within a standard appointment while still giving each kid a look that fits their personality.
Specialty barbering is a different story.
A burst fade isn’t just shorter sides—it takes careful blending, symmetry, detailed clipper work, and serious attention to the little things. The same goes for blowout tapers, mohawks, hard parts, skin fades, and custom designs.
These styles take more time. More precision. And honestly, more cooperation from the client.
Let’s be real for a second.
Most kids under five are way more interested in telling us about dinosaurs, monster trucks, Pokémon, or what they had for breakfast than sitting perfectly still while we dial in a flawless fade.
And that’s exactly how it should be.
Kids are supposed to be curious, energetic, and full of stories.
At Clyde’s, safety always comes first. We’d rather a child leave with a solid haircut and a great experience than spend the whole appointment chasing social-media perfection while everyone ends up stressed.
That’s also why our Kid’s Cut is priced lower.
That price reflects a standard children’s haircut. Specialty styles require extra time and detail work, which is why they may include an additional $5 specialty work charge.
And if your preschooler can sit perfectly still through a burst fade without turning their head, asking questions, or getting distracted by literally anything happening in the shop…
Please teach a class.
We know a few adults who could use it.
