Clyde’s Barbershop: Real Cuts, Real Connections
We’re not your typical barbershop. We’re a little corner of Onarga, Illinois, filled with history, laughter, and that old-school charm that’s hard to find these days (probably because everyone’s too busy staring at their phones). If you’ve ever sat in one of our chairs, you know exactly what I mean. It’s not just about haircuts – it’s about the connection. And also, making sure you don’t leave looking like you’ve been through a wind tunnel.
💈 More Than a Cut: A Place Where People Belong
At Clyde’s, we offer everything from classic cuts to skin fades and beard trims to straight-razor shaves. But what we really specialize in? Making people feel like family, even if you’re not really sure you like your family.
We serve everyone – farmers, factory workers, mechanics, truckers, students, and small-town legends. You might find a 2-year-old getting his very first haircut next to a retired teacher who’s swapping fishing stories. Our clients don’t just leave with a clean cut – they leave feeling like they’ve been part of something bigger. Or at least like they’ve been treated with more respect than the last person who butchered their haircut.
I’ve been cutting hair since 2016, and I’ve still got the passion to treat every cut like it matters (because let’s face it, your hair’s kind of a big deal). Whether you're getting ready for a big job interview or just in for your usual trim, we make sure you walk out of here looking sharp and feeling like you just got an upgrade to your life.
The vibe here? Chill. Relaxed. We’ve got a playlist that jumps from rockabilly to classic rock to Gen X hits, because who doesn’t love a good mix? The air smells like hair tonic and local gossip. And sometimes? It turns into a therapy session. That chair is a safe space for life advice, grumbling about bad weather, or discussing that one friend who’s always late.
🏠 Clyde’s is a Community Hub
We’ve had everything from father-and-son haircuts to groom’s party prep right before the big day. And in the warmer months? You’ll often see our grandkids running their own Lemon Shakeup Stand right out front. It’s one of those “heartwarming” moments that make Clyde’s feel like home. Like, really, who can resist the combination of fresh lemonade and fresh cuts?
One of our favorite traditions? The Onarga Independence Day Festival. We set up a pop-up tent, give free haircuts to anyone who stops by. It’s our way of giving back and being part of the community that’s given so much to us. Plus, there's fireworks. Who doesn’t love fireworks?
And let’s not forget the car show at the local campground every year, where we set up a tent and offer a deal on haircuts. Meeting new folks from all around the region is great, but let’s be real – it’s all about cutting hair while you’re surrounded by awesome show cars and loud music.
We also proudly sponsor Evan Eckhoff (you might know him as #44e) in the local stock car races. Yep, that’s right - we’ve got a racing legend repping Clyde’s Barbershop at the tracks. Nothing like supporting a local racer, especially when they’re going 100 mph and look sharp doing it.
One moment that really stuck with me was visiting a local nursing home to give a man a haircut. His smile when he saw himself in the mirror was priceless, reminding me that it’s not always about the hair – it’s about dignity. And making people feel better about themselves, one snip at a time.
Community support is not just some feel-good slogan we slap on a bumper sticker – it’s how we operate. Clyde’s proudly sponsors the booster club at our local high school because, hey, our future clients need to look good while they're representing the school. We also participate in countless local fundraisers and charitable events. Whether it’s donating gift certificates, barbershop swag, or just showing up with scissors in hand, we’re there. If the town needs support, we’re ready to help. And no, I don’t mean in the “oh, I’ll keep you in my prayers” way. I mean in the “here’s a gift certificate” or "what can we do to help" kind of way.
Speaking of giving back, we proudly accept hair donations for Wigs For Kids. If you’ve got at least 12 inches of hair you’re ready to part with, bring it to Clyde’s. Not only will you walk out with a fresh cut, but you’ll also be giving a child in need the gift of confidence. It’s a win-win.
Need a haircut? We’ve got you covered. Booking with us is easier than convincing your spouse to go to the grocery store.

Oh, and if you’re feeling fancy and want a tattoo while you’re here, my brother runs Toon Town Ink next door. Check it out at www.ToonTownInk.com. Because why not? Every tattoo gets a free haircut.
🙌 Why We Do What We Do
Owning a small-town barbershop isn’t just a job. It’s a lifestyle. It’s waking up at the crack of dawn, working late into the night, and somehow loving every minute of it. It’s watching little kids grow into grown-ups right in your chair. It’s swapping stories with locals you see every day, and hearing about the latest town gossip. It’s giving a veteran a haircut and hearing his stories. It’s giving your grandkids a chance to sell lemonade and then wondering why they’re making more money than you.
At the end of the day, Clyde’s Barbershop is about community, pride, and purpose. In a world that’s moving faster than a 5G signal, we’re proud to offer something that never goes out of style: real connection. And, you know, good haircuts.
Thanks for being part of the Clyde’s Barbershop story. Can’t wait to see you in the shop… or better yet, hear about how your life got better after your haircut.
💬 Got a story from your time in the chair at Clyde’s?
Drop it in the comments – we really want to hear it. Or just tell us how great your haircut was. We’re okay with compliments too.
What a fantastic read! Clyde’s Barbershop isn’t just about haircuts—it’s about heart. Your commitment to community, from offering free cuts at the Independence Day Festival to supporting local racers truly sets you apart. The story about bringing dignity to a nursing home resident with a simple haircut was especially touching. It’s clear that Clyde’s is more than a barbershop; it’s a cornerstone of Onarga. Keep up the incredible work, you’re making a real difference, one cut at a time!
