1. Figure Out Your Hair Type (Yes, It Actually Matters)
Look, your hair isn’t just “hair.” It has a personality - maybe even an attitude problem. Straight, wavy, curly, coily...it all makes a difference in how you should take care of it. And no, throwing random products on it and hoping for the best isn’t a strategy. Pay attention to your hair’s texture, thickness, and how it reacts to different products. It’ll save you from the “why does my hair look like this?” crisis later.
2. Stock Up on the Right Products (Not Just Whatever’s on Sale)
A proper grooming kit isn’t just whatever your roommate left in the shower. You need a good shampoo, conditioner, and something to style with - pomade, gel, whatever works for your hair type. Want bonus points? Add a leave-in conditioner or hair oil to keep things from looking like a haystack. And for the love of all things holy, avoid products loaded with harsh chemicals unless you want your hair to feel like straw.
3. Get Regular Trims (Or Just Embrace the Scraggly Look)
Think skipping haircuts makes your hair grow faster? Cute. The truth is, avoiding trims just means you’re collecting split ends like a hobby. A quick visit to your barber every 2 to 4 weeks keeps things looking fresh and prevents your hair from looking like it lost a fight. And while you’re at it, maybe try a deep conditioning treatment so your hair doesn’t feel like a Brillo pad.
4. Wash Your Hair Correctly (It’s Not Rocket Science, but Some of Y’all…)
Washing your hair isn’t complicated, yet somehow, people still get it wrong. First, use lukewarm water - boiling your scalp won’t make your hair cleaner. Second, scrub your scalp like you mean it (yes, it needs washing too). Third, go easy on the shampoo if you don’t want to strip your hair dry. And when you condition, focus on the ends, not your roots (unless you enjoy looking greasy). Rinse with cool water to keep it smooth and shiny - because who doesn’t want hair that reflects sunlight like a shampoo commercial?
5. Style Smart (Or Accept the Consequences)
If you’re frying your hair with heat tools every day, don’t act surprised when it looks like overcooked ramen. Use heat protectant - seriously, it’s not optional. Better yet, embrace your natural texture instead of forcing it into submission. Experiment with products and styles that work for your hair instead of fighting it like an enemy. Your future self (and your hair) will thank you.
At Clyde’s Barbershop, we believe in keeping it real - so follow these tips, or don’t, but don’t say I didn’t warn you when your hair starts plotting revenge.

I LOVE this blog. The tone of the writing kept me interested and reading (and I appreciate the humor interjected!).
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore the personality of your blog! I enjoyed your tip on washing your hair properly. It's very similar to esthetics when I ask people if they know how to wash their face correctly. It sounds weird but it's true, there is a right way to do it! I was never 'taught' how to wash my face, and I was also never taught how to wash my hair correctly! How do you feel about double washing the hair? I find if I go one too many days between washes or have too much dry shampoo build up, I feel the need to wash twice to get that 'clean' feeling.
ReplyDeleteThis article was as humorous as it was informative! I like that you pointed out the results of avoiding best practices, so the audience knows what to expect!
